Which DVA program covers lawn mowing?
There are two pathways DVA uses to fund lawn and garden maintenance — here's a plain-English summary of each.
White Card
Veterans' Home Care (VHC)
The VHC program offers Home and Garden Maintenance support to Gold Card holders and eligible White Card holders who have functional limitations — meaning lawn mowing and garden upkeep has become difficult due to health or service-related conditions.
To get started, call DVA on 1800 838 372 and ask for a VHC assessment. Once approved, you choose your provider — and Taproot Mowing can step in from there.
Household Services (HHS)
If you have an accepted service-related injury or condition under the DRCA or MRCA that prevents you from doing lawn mowing and gardening you previously managed, DVA can compensate you for the reasonable cost of those services.
The maximum DVA gardening rate for 2025 is $76.55 per hour including GST. Taproot Mowing invoices DVA directly up to this rate — no out-of-pocket cost to you for approved services.

Regular lawn mowing on your approved schedule — weekly or fortnightly during the growing season, reduced in winter. Includes edging and blowing down paths and driveways.
✂️ Whipper snipping & edging
Clean edges along fences, paths, garden beds, and paving. Essential for safe access around the property — particularly important where mobility is a consideration.
🌳 Basic hedge trimming
Trimming and shaping hedges and shrubs where overgrowth creates a hazard or affects access. Conducted within DVA-approved scope for home and garden maintenance.
🧹 Garden clean-ups
One-off or periodic clean-ups to address overgrowth, fallen debris, and general outdoor maintenance. All green waste removed at the end of every visit.
🏡 Path & access clearance
Clearing overgrown paths, driveways, and access routes to maintain safe movement around your property. Particularly relevant for older properties or where vegetation grows quickly.

Tobi invoices DVA directly through the provider portal. Accurate, timely invoices submitted correctly — so there are no delays to your service approvals and no out-of-pocket hassle for you.
